From Mississauga.com:
This past weekend, Mississauga’s Zsolt Daranyi achieved a feat that’s rarely accomplished in the world of amateur boxing, winning three straight Canadian championships.
Daranyi, 16, who trains out of Clancy’s Boxing Academy in the city’s north end, won all three fights at the Canadian Youth Championships in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.
In the championship final, he defeated Windsor’s Mason Blyth on points (18-3). He started out the tournament with a first-round stoppage against Gabreil Benavent of Nova Scotia and was challenged by Quebec’s Josue St.-Cyr but held on to win on points (17-12).
Daranyi has had difficulty finding fights lately because trainer Chris Johnson says opponents are too afraid to challenge him, but Johnson said his pupil had to show a lot of heart to achieve victory.
“He doesn’t want to lose so he’ll do anything to stop that,” “(St.-Cyr) was a very tough opponent and Zsolt really showed us what he’s made of.”
